“珊瑚礁就像海洋中的热带雨林，虽然它们的面积只占全球海洋面积的3%，但却是世界上生物多样性最丰富的地方。”罗杰一见到我们，就迫不及待地说。

初见罗杰时，他身穿普通的绿色T恤、浅色牛仔裤，配一副黑框眼镜，样貌不突出但却显得认真、干练。

如果不介绍，大概没人能猜到他的身份：中国科学院昆明动物研究所博士、珊瑚研究专家。

同时，他也是公益组织“珊瑚星球”的创始人。

罗杰出生于年，是土生土长的昆明人。

从小他最好奇的是各种动物。“小到蝴蝶、蜻蜓、蚂蚱和蚕，大到松鼠、蛇、狗等我都曾养过，《动物世界》节目是一直陪伴我童年的‘好伙伴’。”

高中毕业后，罗杰决定跟随自己的兴趣，考入哈尔滨东北林业大学的野生动物保护专业，主要研究陆生动物保护。

年，他回到家乡云南这个生物多样性富集的地方，并进入中科院昆明动物研究所继续深造。

如果说研究动物是兴趣使然，那他进入奇妙绚烂的“珊瑚世界”则多少有点偶然。

罗杰回忆，自己是年左右参与到研究所里的一个项目而开始研究海洋生物的，当时的研究对象是小丑鱼。

“小丑鱼是一种常年寄居在珊瑚礁和岩礁上的鱼类，所以在研究它们的过程中，自然就接触到了珊瑚，我对珊瑚的了解和认识也由此逐渐深入。”

年之后，罗杰的研究范围从单纯的海洋生物扩展到了海洋生态系统和相关保护。为什么会在云南这样一个远离大海的内陆省份研究珊瑚呢？
